Isme Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Isme Restaurant on Thornbury’s High Street feels like entering a vibrant nook where Middle Eastern warmth meets a laid-back modern spirit. The space carries an industrial edge with its high ceilings and open fixtures, lending a sense of airy openness, while soft lighting and the hum of friendly conversation fill the room with a quiet energy. It’s a place that invites lingering — not rushed, but comfortably unhurried.
Isme’s atmosphere strikes a balance between casual neighborhood gathering spot and thoughtful culinary escape. It’s the kind of place where the clink of glasses and murmur of laughter blend seamlessly with the attentive movements of staff who clearly care. The sense of hospitality here mirrors the slow-cooked tenderness and robust flavors coming from the kitchen — each element feels carefully considered, delivering a genuine, human connection to the food and those who share it.
Dining here is a journey through vibrant textures and rich aromas, from the smoky creaminess of dips served with crisp, fried pita to delicately spiced dumplings and the melt-in-your-mouth richness of slow-roasted lamb shoulder. Sharing these dishes encourages ease and conversation, nurturing moments that go beyond the plate. Freshly squeezed juices and a well-curated selection of cocktails and beers add to the experience, complementing the food without overshadowing it.
Whether you arrive for a lively dinner with friends or an intimate girls’ night out, Isme’s warm, unassuming charm makes it feel like a place you want to revisit. It’s not just about what you eat or drink, but the way the space invites you to enjoy it — a welcome pause in the bustle of daily life where good company and thoughtfully crafted cuisine come together naturally.

Loved this place. We tried most things on the menu and it was all done to perfection. The design and execution of the actual restaurant is beautiful. The cocktails were also delicious.

Had an incredible dinner at Isme, every single dish was packed with flavour and done to perfection. The sujuk dumplings were rich and mouthwatering, the babaganoosh was smoky, creamy, and ridiculously moreish. The lamb shoulder was slow-cooked heaven, tender, juicy, and just falling apart. The grilled chicken was juicy, perfectly charred, and sitting in the most addictive buttery sauce. Even the fries were seasoned like they actually gave a damn, and the fattoush was fresh and punchy. Honestly, I was rolling out of there – couldn’t even fit dessert, and that says a lot. One of those meals you remember. Can’t wait to go back. Special thanks to Helen, she has amazing customer service. Thank you for the lovely evening

Food was amazing! That bread was to die for! We loved everything that we ordered including the cheesecake for dessert. Helen and Sienna were lovely. Although it was Sienna’s first day, she was so accommodating and obliging. And Helen was the perfect hostess - we absolutely loved our girls nite and will be back!

From the moment we walked in we were greeted by friendly staff. We ordered share plates, the cheese cigar, sumbuski, prawn fatter and quarter lamb shoulder with mums fattoush salad. Every dish was amazing. We also tried the Lebanese beer with lemon and salt which was an acquired taste. I preferred the beer on its own after that. Helen looked after us well and was absolutely awesome, we would definitely visit again.

Food was vey nice, tasty and well seasoned, however a bit pricey for what was served. Restaurant nice, but with industrial high ceilings and fixtures visible, it felt like a warehouse and not intimate and lighting was quite dim. Service was average, the lady was polite and did what she could; mains brought without cutlery and we had to get up and find someone to bring for us. Overall, lovely food, but lacking service and vibe

We got around 6 different plates, the lamb Hummus was on top, different flavours, and the meat was so tender. The lowest for me eas the famous ( normal ), the sujik dumplings were perfect. The staff and the atmosphere was so good .

We celebrated our 25th anniversary here and came out with full and satisfied bellies. Food was worth every penny and there wasn’t anything that we didn’t like. Cocktails are a must here as they have some of the best concoctions and if you love prawns, I highly recommend their “prawn fatteh” dish; fresh, juicy succulent prawns; with flavours that I can’t even describe, but I could happily eat that for the rest of my life. The place has a very chilled & relaxed atmosphere and all their staff were very friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back to explore their other food options and most likely order another round of “prawn fatteh”.

Isme is a true standout when it comes to Middle Eastern dining. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth — especially from Helen, who is an absolute gem. Her genuine hospitality made us feel right at home. Every dish was delicious, but the Sujuk dumplings were next-level — packed with flavour and unlike anything we’ve tried before. A definite must-try! The rest of the menu was just as impressive, with fresh, vibrant dishes that celebrate Middle Eastern flavours beautifully. The atmosphere was buzzing, the service was faultless, and the food… unforgettable. Can’t wait for our next visit
